A year ago yesterday

A year ago yesterday, Jan and I set out with our rental car, two suitcases and a few other things to Switzerland.  We hadn't slept much the night before and we were excited for what we would encounter on our new journey.  Our first stop in Switzerland was Neuhausen (where Jannis' work is).  We picked up the key to our temporary apartment and then set out towards Merishausen.  The emotions were very mixed as we approached the small town.  It was so beautiful but so foreign and it was hard to believe that this was our new home.
Once we found our apartment, we unloaded the car and went out to get some groceries.  Upon our return to the apartment we sat in silence at our small table eating our frozen pizzas and I asked Jan if he was scared.  He answered yes to my question (I was also scared) and then we began to discuss the many feelings running through our minds.  It was such a different mix of feelings than I had ever felt before.  Everything was new... not to mention it was no short visit this time.  We were staying and it was hard to believe that it wasn't a dream.  God's assurance to us during this time was wonderful and strong.  We knew he was with us and guiding us and there was nothing we could do but take his hand and follow his lead.
Looking back a year later we feel so blessed with Jan's job, my small work here and there, our lovely apartment, the contacts we've made this far and the friends that we're getting to know, God's wonderful provisions and most of all for our baby on the way.  2008 was really a full year and we are praising God that He's brought us this far and blessed us so much.
Here are a few pictures of our first impressions of Schaffhausen and the surrounding area as we saw them a year ago...
